Business Central 2023 wave 2 (BC23.1): VAT posting in General Ledger setup (Allow VAT Date From and Allow VAT Date To)

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful.

VAT posting in General Ledger setup:

Business value:
You can limit the VAT dates for posting independently from the posting dates.

Feature details:
Currently, when you use the VAT Date functionality, the validation is the same for the Posting Date in the General Ledger Setup and the User Setup. This means you can’t backdate VAT entries without opening prior posting periods and sometimes, the Posting Date and VAT Date range isn’t the same.

VAT Date is a new feature since Business Central 2022 wave 2 (BC21), more details: Business Central 2022 wave 2 (BC21): New VAT Date field on documents and entries

There were some updates before: Business Central 2022 wave 2 (BC 21.3) updates: VAT Date – minor improvements

With this wave, this feature introduces new separate setups to control the VAT Date independent of the Posting Date. You can configure the VAT Date range in the VAT Setup page using the following options:

Allow VAT Date From
Specifies the earliest date on which VAT posting to the company books is allowed.

Allow VAT Date To
Specifies the last date on which VAT posting to the company books is allowed.

The same option will exist on the User Setup page and will extend options for configuration for users. (These posting periods overrule those specified on the VAT Setup page)

If the VAT date is not within the setting range when posting:

The following error will occur.

The VAT Date is not within the range of allowed VAT dates.
