Business Central 2023 wave 2 (BC23): AppSource search results will be removed from Tell me search (ALT+Q)

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful.

In this post I would like to share new information, AppSource search results will be removed from Tell me search (ALT+Q). This is not yet documented in the Business Central 2023 release wave 2 (BC23) release plan. The first time I saw this information was from Søren’s X (Twitter).

As you might know, in-product search box in Business Central, Tell Me, can help you quickly go to things like actions, pages, or reports, find information about how to complete a particular task, and discover other apps and consulting services for Business Central. Yes, so far in Tell Me search we have been able to search for apps and consulting services.
For example,

After clicking, you can jump to the page in AppSource.

Another example,

For the most part, this feature is not very useful and makes the search box look very cluttered.😑

PS: This only works in SaaS (Cloud).
I use on-premises Business Central. Does that include Tell Me?

The good news is that AppSource search results will be removed in Business Central 2023 wave 2 (BC23).👏👏👏

As for the reason, Søren also mentioned it in the BC Yammer group.

Because we do not think that the search results area is the right place to link to AppSource. We had no way to govern whom to show it to, and virtually no one used it. Ultimately, we have very little evidence to suggest that anyone else than the partner and maybe some people at the customer are able to assess if an app is 1) relevant, 2) trustworthy, and 3) compatible. The partner (of the customer) is best positioned to do that. Thus, it no longer makes sense to link to apps in context of a search. We may introduce a link somewhere else to “Addons for Business Central” but not yet decided.
