Business Central 2024 wave 1 (BC24): Allow customers to consent to Microsoft Support accessing their data (Customer Lockbox)

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Dynamics 365 Business Central 2024 wave 1 (BC24) is generally available. More details: General availability: Dynamics 365 Business Central 2024 release wave 1 (BC24).

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful.

Allow customers to consent to Microsoft Support accessing their data:

Business value:
Customers can fulfill their data privacy requirements and get support from Microsoft in a way that ensures their explicit consent.

This is also mentioned in What’s new: Governance & Administration (Business Central Launch Event).

In the Power Platform admin center, administrators can create lockbox policies that apply to Power Platform and Dynamics 365 environments so that our customers can review and approve or reject access requests from Microsoft engineers in response to a customer-initiated support ticket, or a problem identified by Microsoft.

For example, choose Settings in the Power Platform admin center.

You can find Customer Lockbox: Control Microsoft operator access to customer content.

The default is Disable, click to enable it.

Customer Lockbox
Access to Customer Lockbox for Microsoft Power Platform and Dynamics 365 requires users in the environments where the Lockbox policy is enforced to have any of these subscriptions:
・Microsoft 365 or Office 365 A5/E5/G5
・Microsoft 365 A5/E5/F5/G5 Compliance
・Microsoft 365 F5 Security & Compliance
・Microsoft 365 A5/E5/F5/G5 Insider Risk Management
・Microsoft 365 A5/E5/F5/G5 Information Protection and Governance
Learn more about applicable licenses.

With 2024 release wave 1 (BC24), lockbox policies in the Power Platform admin center now apply to Business Central environments as well. Customers can choose to enable lockbox on their Microsoft Entra tenant to:

  • Increase security and privacy of their data in the cloud.
  • Have more visibility and control over who accesses their data and for which purposes.
  • Comply with regulatory or organizational requirements for data access governance.

You can find more information about Customer Lockbox in the article below:

Good to know from What’s new: Governance & Administration (Business Central Launch Event):

  • Policy only enforced for environments that are activated for Managed Environments
  • Administered by Global Administrators and Power Platform Administrators
  • Microsoft 365 & Power Platform licensing requirments
  • Lockbox approvals are valid for 8 hours

Great. Give it a try!!!😁

END

Hope this will help.

Thanks for reading.
