New Features for Dynamics 365 Business Central 2021 release wave 1 (BC18): Look up Business Central contacts from within Microsoft Teams (Business Central in Microsoft Teams)

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Yesterday, the preview environment for Dynamics 365 Business Central 2021 release wave 1 (BC18) is available. Learn more: https://yzhums.com/10601/.

I will test and share some new features that I hope will help.

Look up Business Central contacts from within Microsoft Teams:

Business value:

Business Central offers a comprehensive business contact management system that is essential for users in sales, operations, or other departmental roles. Users in such roles often need to initiate calls with their vendors, customers, and other contacts in Microsoft Teams. By quickly accessing business contacts from Microsoft Teams, customers don’t need to switch applications for a simple lookup, and can view details entirely within Microsoft Teams.

Feature details:

・Look up Business Central contacts from the Microsoft Teams search box or from the message compose area.

・Share a contact with your coworkers during conversations in Microsoft Teams.

・View contact information and historical data in the details window in Microsoft Teams, and immediately start a call.

In 2020 release wave 2 plan (BC17), Business Central (Preview) App in Microsoft Teams was released. For a long time, it was always a preview version.

Just recently, Microsoft announced that the Business Central app for Teams is now generally available.

The Business Central app for Teams is designed to work with your customizations and solutions. No matter your role, industry, or geography, you can paste a link to almost any business entity that you work with.

You can share a contact with your coworkers during conversations in Microsoft Teams.

Test Video:

And from BC18, you can connect it to your 2021 release wave 1 environment to search for customers, vendors, and other contacts, directly from Teams.

Right-click BC’s icon in the chat box, and then choose Settings.

Select the environment and company you need to connect to, then click Save and Close.

Click the icon of BC in the chat box.

Now you can look up Business Central contacts from the Microsoft Teams search box

Customers:

Vendor:

You can send information of the selected contact.

Test Video:

Note:

PS: I really like this feature. Now it’s almost possible to do a lot of things in Teams without using BC’s web client.

For example:
Sales Orders: Modify a sales order and post.

Chart of Account: View the balance details.

etc.

Compatibility

  • The app is not intended to work with on-premises, hosted or private cloud deployments of Business Central. The only supported deployment type is Business Central online (software as a service).
  • The app is not intended to work with any versions of the Business Central service, platform or business application prior to version 17.0.x.x. For the best experience, your environment should be upgraded to version 17.3 or later.
