Business Central 2023 wave 2 (BC23): Get more information about effective permissions

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
The public preview for Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 release wave 2 (BC23) is available. Learn more: Link.

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful.

Get more information about effective permissions:

Business value:
It’s important that Business Central grant the right level of access to business data, so admins need to be able to verify the permissions that their users have. To give administrators deeper insight, the Effective Permissions page shows the source of permissions and the applied security filters.

Granting the right level of access to business data is important for Business Central administrators. To ensure that they’ve done so, administrators use the Effective Permissions page to view the permissions they’ve granted to each user.

As you might know, on the Users page or User Card page, we can choose Effective Permissions to view the user’s actual permissions for all objects per assigned permission set, and edit the user’s permissions in permission sets of type User-Defined.

More details: To get an overview of a user’s permissions

For end users, if they have access to the Effective Permissions page, they can enter Effective Permissions in Tell Me, and then choose the related link to view their own permissions.

PS: You can view other users’ effective permissions only if you’re assigned to the SECURITY or SUPER permissions. Otherwise, if you try to access the effective permissions assigned to another user, an error message displays.

Only users with the SUPER or the SECURITY permission set can view effective permissions for other users.

From this wave, the Effective Permissions page offers additional information about the source of each permission. For example, whether the source is a security group, or a permission is inherited. The page also contains a column where administrators can review the security filters that are applied.

Give it a try!!!😁

END

Hope this will help.

Thanks for reading.
