Business Central upcoming update: Undo Transfer Shipment

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Today I would like to share a new upcoming update about Business Central, Undo Transfer Shipment. Hope you like it.

Upate 2023.01.26: 2023 release wave 1 plan | Undo transfer shipments

As you might know, you can undo Receipts/Shipments in Business Central. To undo a receipt or shipment posting, before theyā€™re posted as invoiced, you can use theĀ UndoĀ function on the posted document. You can undo quantities of typeĀ ItemĀ andĀ Resource.

For example,
On the Posted Sales Shipment: Undo Shipment

On the Posted Purchase Receipt: Undo Receipt

PS: If theyā€™re posted as invoiced, this will not be able to be undo.

This receipt has already been invoiced. Undo Receipt can be applied only to posted, but not invoiced receipts.

More details: Reverse Journal Postings and Undo Receipts/Shipments

But all the time we donā€™t have Undo functionality on Posted Transfer Shipment page. For example, when we have posted the shipment but not yet posted the receipt in transfer order, if there is a problem with the quantity or item of the shipment, as we cannot do Undo, we can only complete the receipt first, then recreate a transfer order to transfer back, and finally recreate the original transfer order to adjust the quantity or item to re-post the shipment.
This is very inconvenient.šŸ˜‘

In Manage action group:

In Line action group:

You can find a topic on Microsoft Ideas, Undo Transfer Shipment | Microsoft Idea.

It would be very useful if BC allowed for Posted Shipments to be undone.

Sales Shipments have the same functionality (so long as the SO hasnā€™t been invoiced yet).

A real scenario is when goods are being shipped between locations (or when theyā€™re being shipped from an overseas location), and then the receiving party realizes that not all goods were really shipped ā€“ yet, it was already systematically shipped.

BC has no room for corrections, and Transfer Orders need to be fully posted so that the ā€œwrong quantityā€ can be adjusted down, or sent back.

If we could undo the shipment on a Posted Transfer Receipt, this would solve a lot of useless correctional transactions.

Yes, this will all change in the next major version.šŸŽ‰šŸ‘šŸŽŠšŸŽ

The first is the information from Amanda Mayer, CPA in Summit NA 2022. More details: Link
The Undo transfer shipment feature has been added to the Business Central roadmap.

Then, recently there was a topic in MS Yammer, and the following information is from Andrei Panko.

More details:

We are considering adding this product suggestion to our roadmap.
We expect it to work the same way as sales shipment in sales order. Particularly this means:
Out of scope: Direct Transfer = Yes

Supported items:

ItemNoTracking
ItemTracking (SN, Lot, and/or Package, either Tracking only or Tracking for Inbound/Outbound Transfers)
ItemTrackingWMS (SN, Lot, and/or Package when WMS Tracking is enabled)

Supported ā€œFrom locationsā€

ā€“ BLUE (no bin, no WMS handling: Require Pick = False, Require Shipment = False, Directed Pick&PutAway = False)
ā€“ SILVER (bins, no WMS handling: Require Pick = False, Require Shipment = False, Directed Pick&PutAway = False)
ā€“ SILVER-SHIP (bins, Require Pick = False, Require Shipment = TRUE, Directed Pick&PutAway = False)
ā€“ YELLOW-SHIP (no bins, Require Pick = False, Require Shipment = TRUE, Directed Pick&PutAway = False)
ā€“ SILVER-WMS (bins, Require Pick = TRUE, Require Shipment = TRUE, Directed Pick&PutAway = False) -YELLOW-WMS (no bins, Require Pick = TRUE, Require Shipment = TRUE, Directed Pick&PutAway = False)
ā€“ WHITE (bins, Require Pick = TRUE, Require Shipment = TRUE, Directed Pick&PutAway = TRUE)
Special notes forĀ SILVER-WMS, YELLOW-WMS, WHITEĀ locations:

1. When triggering the Undo function, show confirmation
The items have been picked. If you undo line 60000, the items will remain in the shipping area until you put them away. Do you still want to undo the shipment?

2. For SILVER-WMS, YELLOW-WMS, WHITE ā€“ if there is partially posted warehouse pick, the following error is expected:
Expected error: You cannot undo line XXXXX because warehouse activity lines have already been posted.

Non-supported locations:
(scope of another product suggestions:https://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=d3b10cfa-fbfe-ea11-b5d9-0003ff68a8ae andhttps://experience.dynamics.com/ideas/idea/?ideaid=61de6a3f-6cb1-eb11-89ee-0003ff45e089)

ā€“ SILVER-PICK (bins, Require Pick = TRUE, Require Shipment = False, Directed Pick&PutAway = False)
ā€“ YELLOW-PICK (no bins, Require Pick = TRUE, Require Shipment = False, Directed Pick&PutAway = False)
Expected error:Ā You cannot undo line XXXXX because inventory pick lines have already been posted.

Basic scenario (with ref to Sales order)

Sales Order (ref)
1. User posts Shipment only (not invoice)
2. User opens created shipment, select one or more lines to Undo. Uses Undo Shipment functions
3. Once confirmed there is ā€œnegative lineā€ linked to original line (application for Item Ledger Entry) and the Qty Shipped is updated in SO

Transfer Order
1. User posts Shipment only (not receipt, so it doesnā€™t work for Direct Transfers)
2. User opens created shipment, select one or more lines to Undo. Uses Undo Shipment functions
3. Once confirmed there is ā€œnegative lineā€ linked to original line (application for Item Ledger Entry) and the Qty Shipped is updated in Transfer Order
