Business Central 2024 wave 2 (BC25): Microsoft AppSource apps (In-client AppSource gallery) feature will replace the Extension Marketplace (Deprecation of Extension Marketplace)

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
The public preview for Dynamics 365 Business Central 2024 release wave 2 (BC25) is available. Learn more: Link.

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful.

In this post, I would like to talk about Deprecation of Extension Marketplace in Business Central 2024 release wave 2 (BC25). This is not yet documented in the Business Central 2024 release wave 2 (BC25) release plan and AL Language extension changelog Version 14.0. Let’s see more details.

In how to install AppSource Extension in Dynamics 365 Business Central SaaS, we briefly discussed how to install the AppSource Extension from Extension Marketplace.

It’s not a very easy page to search, filter and sort.

With this wave (BC24), Microsoft has prepared a new page, Microsoft Appsource Apps page.

Microsoft AppSource Apps:

I just happened to find out that in Business Central 2024 wave 2 (BC25), Microsoft removed the Extension Marketplace action from Extension Management page and added AppSource Galley action.

PS: A description of this change can be found in page 2502 “Extension Marketplace”

ObsoleteReason:
‘This page will be obsoleted. Microsoft AppSource apps feature will replace the Extension Marketplace.’;

So the way we install extension from AppSource has changed a little bit. Let’s take a look at a simple example, installing a Microsoft first-party language pack.

Choose AppSource Gallery on the Extension Management (Installed Extensions) page

Since all current AppSource apps need to be read, the page will open a little slower.

Use the Search or Filter feature to find the app you want to install, such as Italian language (Italy), and click the extension name.

Choose Install From AppSource.

A new tab will automatically open, then click Get it now.

Select the environment you want to install and click Install.

Click Install again on the Extension Installation page.

Your app is installed and ready to use.

Close the Extension Installation page (you may need to click Close twice), and return to the Extension Management (Installed Extensions) page. You can find that the app has been installed normally.

This is not much different from the previous installation method in Extension Marketplace. Give it a try!!!😁

PS: As before, third-party non-free apps cannot be installed through the new page. For example,

Hope this will help.
