Today I would like to briefly discuss the new field “Published as” on the Extension Management page in Business Central 2021 release wave 1 (BC18).
First let’s look at the basic information of this field.
Specifies whether the extension is published as a per-tenant, development, or a global extension.
This field contains three values, Global, PTE, Dev. It specifies the scope of extensions.
Published Application (2000000206) table:
As you might know, there are two kinds of extensions in Business Central: AppSource Extensions and Per-Tenant Extensions (PTE).
And there are two kinds of environments: Sandbox and Production.
In Production, AppSource Extensions are installed in the global scope and Per-Tenant Extensions are installed in the Tenant Scope. And in Sandbox environments, you can also install extensions to the development scope via VS Code.
So the three values are defined as follows:
Global (Global Scope): AppSource Extensions (Including Microsoft standard extensions)
PTE (Tenant Scope): PTEs published by Upload Extension on the Extension Management page.
Dev (Development Scope): PTEs published by VS Code.
Note: The extensions created by Design are also Dev.
Important: Extensions that have been published from Visual Studio Code are removed when the environment is updated or relocated within our service. For more information, see this article on sandbox environments https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2153804.
The field actually exists in BC17.5, but we just can’t display it on the page.
Hope this will help.
Thanks for your reading.
