It’s easy to get insights into your Business Central data with Power BI – a data visualization system from Microsoft. Power BI retrieves Business Central data so that you can build dashboards and reports based on that data. Power BI provides a flexible alternative to reports built in Business Central, enabling you drill down and customize the visualization, and even merge data from different companies in Business Central. Some Power BI reports can also be embedded in Business Central and viewed without leaving the system. More complex dashboards are better experienced from the Power BI web site.

This release wave (BC25) adds a lot of new reports for finance, sales, purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, and projects. And available in BC25.1.

But it is not available by default, we need some setup and installation of Microsoft’s standard Power BI Apps in Power BI.
I recommend installing the standard apps in Power BI first. Let’s see more details.
Choose Power BI from App Launcher.

Choose Apps -> Get apps

Search for Business Central and scroll down, you will find the standard apps added by Microsoft this time.

I’ll use the Business Central Finance Power BI app as an example. Choose Get it now.

Choose Get it now again.

Choose Install.

Installing an app

Your new app is ready!

Then go back to Business Central and click on any Power BI report. The wizard page below will be displayed. The first half is to confirm whether you have a Power BI license and whether to use this feature.

In the second half of the assisted setup, you need to select the installed Power BI apps and set some report parameters.
