Dynamics 365 Business Central mini tips: How to open the environments selection page (Select the different sandboxes available on the tenant)

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
With Business Central online, you can easily get a safe environment where you can test, train, or troubleshoot without disturbing your company’s work processes or business data. Such a non-production environment is called a sandbox. Isolated from production, a sandbox environment is the place to safely explore, learn, demo, develop, and test the service without the risk of affecting the data and settings of your production environment.

Do you remember that when Business Central first supported multiple Production environments and multiple Sandbox environments, a window for selecting the environment popped up every time the BC URL was opened? Maybe it was in BC15 or BC16, I can’t remember clearly.

At that time, users were used to opening Business Central from the Dynamics home page (http://home.dynamics.com/).
Dynamics home page has moved to office.com in October 2020, and this window gradually disappeared from view.
More details: Dynamics 365 Home is deprecated

But this causes another problem, for end users who do not have access to Business Central Admin Center, how to access other environments available on the tenant, for example, they may not know the name of the Sandbox.

Actually, it is very simple, you can use the app launcher. The app launcher is built in to all Dynamics 365 and Microsoft 365 apps. Use the app launcher in the upper-left corner to quickly navigate to your Dynamics 365 application of choice.

When you choose Business Central or Business Central Sandbox from the app launcher.

You can open this window.

If you pay attention to the BC URL now, you can find that ?sandbox=true is added after the Tenant ID.

So you can force Business Central to run the “Sandboxes selection” page by adding the ?sandbox=true parameter to the URL.
For example: https://businesscentral.dynamics.com/d8f36038-1f93-4543-affc-5dc92b6ee871/?sandbox=true

PS: You can add our own custom tiles to the app launcher that point to the Business Central environment in Microsoft 365 admin center.

Hope this will help.
