Business Central 2026 release wave 1 (BC28): Enhanced demo data for sales, purchasing, and fixed assets analytics

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful. In this post, I would like to talk about Enhanced demo data for sales, purchasing, and fixed assets analytics.

Enhanced demo data for sales, purchasing, and fixed assets analytics:

We’re enhancing the demo data for the Sales, Purchasing, and Fixed Assets modules to make it easier to demonstrate the reporting and analytics in those areas. The following lists briefly describe the enhancements in each area.

In Business Central 2022 wave 1 (BC20), to help partners demonstrate the premium capabilities of Business Central, Microsoft made the demo tool and demo data available for manufacturing scenarios. More details: Demo tool and demo data for manufacturing scenarios (Contoso Coffee Demo Dataset)

New demo data was then added gradually.

Wit this wave (BC28), Microsoft is enhancing the demo data for the Sales, Purchasing, and Fixed Assets modules to make it easier to demonstrate the reporting and analytics in those areas. 

The following lists briefly describe the enhancements in each area.

Sales

  • Salespersons: Distributed sales documents across more salespeople.

PS: In BC27 and previous versions

  • Open orders: Added more open sales orders.

PS: In BC27 and previous versions

  • Backorders: Added more sales backorders.

PS: In BC27 and previous versions

  • Due dates: Spread out the due date of existing sales documents.

PS: In BC27 and previous versions

  • Deferral codes: Added deferral codes to posted and unposted sales documents.
  • Discounts: Added line discounts to posted sales invoices.

Purchasing

  • Added new purchasing department dimension and used that on purchase documents before posting.
  • Purchasing Module: Added purchasers and return reasons to existing purchase documents.
  • Analytics Module: Added purchasers and return reasons to existing purchase documents.

Fixed Assets

  • Added dimension setup and posted entries for fixed assets.

PS: In Business Central 2024 wave 2 (BC25.3), the method of creating demo/sample data using Configuration packages was deprecated. More details: Business Central 2024 wave 2 (BC25.3): Configuration packages for setup and evaluation data has been deprecated (The method of creating demo/sample data has changed)
