I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful. In this post, I would like to talk about Audit user and group permissions across apps.

The new Permissions Overview page provides comprehensive visibility into permission sets across all installed apps and extensions.

A Business Central solution contains many predefined permission sets that are added by Microsoft or by your software provider (by an ISV application that you installed from Marketplace).

Permission sets included with Microsoft and Marketplace apps defined as AL objects are of the type System.

PS: End-users can’t create or edit these types of permission sets or the permissions within them. However, they can copy these permission sets to define their own permission sets and permissions. Permission sets that users create, from new or as copies, are of the type User-Defined and they can be edited.

With this wave (BC28), Microsoft has introduced the new ‘Permissions Overview‘ page to streamline and improve permission management. Let’s see more details.

Select Tell Me (Alt+Q) in the upper-right corner, enter Permissions Overview, and then choose the related link.

Once opened, you will be presented with the new ‘Permissions Overview‘ page.

Key capabilities:

  • View permissions from all apps and extensions in a unified view
  • Filter data by object, scope, extension, or permission set to quickly find specific permissions
  • Identify which permission sets grant access to a specific object (for example, which sets allow editing customer records)
  • FactBoxes that showing which security groups and users are assigned each permission set

This centralized view helps administrators analyze permission dependencies, conduct security audits, and troubleshoot access issues without navigating multiple pages or extensions.
