Business Central 2026 release wave 1 (BC28): Show Currency Symbol/Code and Currency Symbol Position

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Dynamics 365 Business Central 2026 wave 1 (BC28.3) is generally available. More details: Cumulative Update Summary for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (July, 2026)

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful. In this post, I would like to talk about Show Currency Symbol/Code and Currency Symbol Position.

If your company operates in more than one country or region, it’s probably important that you can do business in more than one currency. You define your local currency (LCY) on the General Ledger Setup page.

Afterward, your local currency will be represented as a blank currency on documents and transactions. When the Currency field is blank, the currency is LCY.

Important:
Do not create the local currency code both in the General Ledger Setup and in the Currencies page. This will create confusion between the blank currency and the LCY code in the currency table, and bank accounts, customers or suppliers might accidentally be created, some with the blank currency and some with the LCY code.

In this release (BC28), Microsoft has added two new settings to the General Ledger Setup page.

Show Currency
Specifies when the currency symbol or code is shown in the UI.

FCY: Foreign Currency
LCY: Local Currency

Currency Symbol Position
Specifies the position of the currency symbol in relation to the amount.

And for FCY, navigate to the Currencies page, where a new setting has been added to support this feature.

Currency Symbol Position
Specifies the position of the currency symbol in relation to the amount.

We can now show the currency code or symbol in amount fields, including flexible placement options.

PS: You can configure the LCY code and currency symbol on the General Ledger Setup page, while FCY settings are managed on the Currencies page.

In BC27.5 and previous versions:

Let’s walk through a quick test.

1. Show Currency: Never

2. Show Currency: LCY and FCY Symbol & Currency Symbol Position: Before Amount

Currencies: Before Amount

3. Show Currency: LCY and FCY Currency Code & Currency Symbol Position: Before Amount

Currencies: Before Amount

4. Show Currency: LCY and FCY Symbol & Currency Symbol Position: After Amount

Currencies:

CodeDescriptionISO CodeSymbolCurrency Symbol Position
JPYJapanese yenJPY¥After Amount
SEKSwedish kronaSEKkrAfter Amount
USDUS dollarUSD$Before Amount

So, the Show Currency setting applies globally to both LCY and FCY. However, regarding the currency symbol position, the General Ledger Setup page only controls the display for LCY. For any foreign currencies (FCY), the symbol position must be configured specifically within each record on the Currencies page. Once configured, this formatting is automatically applied to all amount fields throughout the system. For example,

Great. Give it a try!!!😁

PS: Although this feature was previously rolled back, it is now available in the current version. More details: Currency Symbols/Codes in BC

END

Hope this will help.
