Business Central 2025 wave 2 (BC27): Deferral reporting enhancements (Replacing RDL layouts with Word and Excel formats and adding three new list pages)

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 wave 2 (BC27) is generally available. More details: General Available: Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 release wave 2 (BC27).

I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful. In this post, I would like to talk about Deferral reporting enhancements (Replacing RDL layouts with Word and Excel formats and adding three new list pages).

Deferral reporting enhancements:

Business value:
This update empowers finance teams with greater flexibility and insight into deferral data. Replacing RDL layouts with Word and Excel formats lets you easily customize reports without developer support. The new list pages and analysis mode enable proactive review of unposted deferral lines across all documents, improving forecasting and decision-making. The improved reports are documented to enhance discoverability and user adoption. Overall, businesses gain faster access to actionable data and more control over financial reporting.

Feature details:
Controllers can analyze current and upcoming deferrals. They can also change the report layouts to suit their needs with no need for a developer. The reports are easy to discover, and their purpose is easy to understand.

To recognize revenues or expenses in a later period than the transaction posted in, you can set up a schedule to automatically defer them.

To distribute revenues or expenses to accounting periods, you set up a deferral template for the resource, item, or G/L account that the revenue or expense is for. When you post the sales or purchase document, the revenue or expense is deferred to the accounting periods you specify in the deferral template and the posting date.

PS:
1. Business Central 2022 wave 1 (BC20): More control over deferrals posting (Beginning of Next Calendar Year as the Start Date)
2. Business Central 2024 wave 1 (BC24): Use deferral codes (deferrals posting) in purchase and sales journals

With this wave (BC27), Microsoft have modernized the following reports:

  • G/L Deferral Summary
  • Sales Deferral Summary
  • Purchasing Deferral Summary

Microsoft replaced the RDL layouts for each of these reports with Word and Excel layouts, and added in-client help and documentation for them. Let’s see more details.

G/L Deferral Summary: Deferral Summary – G/L (1700, Report Request)

For example,

PS: In BC26.5 and previous versions

Sales Deferral Summary: Deferral Summary – Sales (1701, Report Request)

PS: In BC26.5 and previous versions

Purchasing Deferral Summary: Deferral Summary – Purchasing (1702, Report Request)

PS: In BC26.5 and previous versions

To enable ad hoc analyses, in addition to the reports, Microsoft also added three new list pages:

  • Sales deferral lines
  • Purchasing deferral lines
  • G/L deferral lines

When you turn on analysis mode for these list pages, you can analyze deferral lines that you haven’t posted yet across all documents.

Sales deferral lines: Deferral Lines – Sales

Purchasing deferral lines: Deferral Lines – Purchasing

G/L deferral lines: Deferral Lines – G/L

Great, give it a try!!!😁

END

Hope this will help.

Thanks for reading.
