Dynamics 365 Business Central: Automatically create Lot/Serial No. Information card on posting (No customization)

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Today I would like to talk about how to automatically create Lot/Serial No. Information card on posting (No customization).
As you know, companies may want to keep track of items from the moment they enter the company. In this situation, the purchase order is often the central document, although item tracking may be handled from any inbound document and its posted entries displayed in the related item ledger entries.

In Dynamics 365 Business Central: How to create Item Tracking Lines automatically during an inbound transaction (Customization), we discussed how to automate the process of creating item tracking lines. More details:

Actually, the latter part of this customization (Automatically create Lot/Serial No. Information card) can now be achieved through standard features. Let’s see more details.

The Item Tracking Code associated with the Item has the following two options.

Create SN Info. on posting
Specifies that if the Serial No. Information card is missing for the document line, the card will be created during posting.

Create Lot No. Info. on posting
Specifies that if the Lot No. Information card is missing for the document line, the card will be created during posting.

Let’s take Lot No. as an example, enable the following option.

Either open an existing purchase order or create a new purchase order. Select the document line, and on the Lines FastTab, choose the Line action, and then choose the Item Tracking Lines action to open the Edit – Item Tracking Lines page.

You can assign serial or lot numbers in the following ways:

  • Automatically, by selecting Process then choosing Assign Serial No. or Assign Lot No. to assign serial/lot numbers from predefined number series.
  • Automatically, by selecting Process then choosing Create Customized SN to assign serial/lot numbers based on number series you define specifically for the arrived items.
  • Manually, by entering serial or lot numbers directly, for example, the vendor’s numbers.
  • Manually, by assigning a specific number to each item unit.

At this point you can confirm that the Lot No. Information card has not yet been created.

Then let’s post the receipt.

Then you’ll find that after the purchase order is posted, the Lot No. Information Card has been automatically created.

It’s very convenient. Give it a try!😁

Hope this will help.

Thanks for reading.
