Dynamics 365 Business Central: How to change Due Date of posted documents

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Today I would like to share another mini tip in Business Central, how to change Due Date of posted documents.

Due date in Business Central is the date when something is due to be paid. You can find this field in Sales Documents, Purchase Documents, Service Documents, etc. For example, on the Sales Order page:

Due Date
Specifies when the related sales invoice must be paid.

The Due Date will also be displayed in the Customer Ledger Entries and will be displayed in red if the date has passed.

This is calculated based on the currently set Work Date.

And it is important to note that the Due Date is calculated by default based on the Document Date and Payment Terms Code, not the Posting Date.

table 36 “Sales Header”:

The calculation formula is set in Due Date Calculation field on the Payment Terms page. More details: About complex Due Date Calculations

Due Date Calculation
Specifies a formula that determines how to calculate the due date, for example, when you create an invoice.

However, in the actual process, there may be a situation where the customer contacts you outside the system and the payment needs to be postponed, or there is a problem with the items and the payment needs to be made after the items are exchanged. We need to update the due date in Business Central, so how should we do it?

There are two standard solutions. Let’s take sales as an example.

1. Posted Sales Invoice -> Update Document

Sometimes you have to update a posted document because information that is relevant to the document has changed. On a posted sales document, this can be the shipping agent’s package tracking number, for example. On a posted purchase document, this can be a payment reference text. More details: Edit Posted Documents

On the Posted Sales Invoices (143, List) page, select the document that you want to edit.

And then choose the Update Document action. Alternatively, open the document and then choose the action.

Then on the Posted Sales Inv. – Update page, you can edit some fields. The page contains a subset of the fields on the original document, of which some are non-editable fields that are shown for information only.

For example,

Due Date will be updated.

And customer Ledger Entries will also be updated at the same time.

2. Customer Ledger entries -> Edit

And similar to what was mentioned in Change descriptions on G/L entries (MS Learn), we can choose Edit list on the Customer Ledger Entries to modify some fields.

This also includes Due Date.

For example,

As with method 1, the Posted Sales Invoice is updated at the same time.

For the purchase process, the standard only allows the Due Date to be modified in the Vendor Ledger Entries, and Posted Purch. Invoice – Update page does not include the Due Date field.

Very simple, give it a try!!!😁

PS:
1. Can we insert/modify/delete posted data (Posted Documents & Posted Entries) via AL???

2. How to add directly editable fields to Vendor Ledger Entries

3. How to extend the Posted Document Update page (A solution for editing Posted Document)

4. Can we delete Posted Documents (Posted invoices and credit memos)???

END

Hope this will help.

Thanks for reading.
