Hi, Readers.
The public preview for Dynamics 365 Business Central 2025 release wave 1 (BC26) is available. Learn more: Link.
I will continue to test and share some new features that I hope will be helpful.
Use Edit in Excel on output, consumption, and item journals:

One reason the Edit in Excel feature in Business Central is so popular is that it provides a fast way to enter data. For example, you can use templates for journals, quickly do bulk edits, and so on. You can use the feature to speed up data entry on item journals to include item tracking details such as lot, serial, package number, warranty, and expiration dates. We also enabled the capability to edit item tracking details in consumption and output journals.
The Edit in Excel action is available on most lists, but not all.

With the Edit in Excel action, you make changes to records in Excel and then publish the changes back to Business Central. When Excel opens, you’ll see the Excel Add-in pane on the right. More details: Viewing and Editing in Excel From Business Central

In previous versions, Microsoft also worked on adding supported pages, for example.
- Business Central 2021 wave 2 (BC19): Edit in Excel in recurring general journals and intercompany general journals
- Business Central 2023 wave 2 (BC23): Edit in Excel on item journals and warehouse worksheets
With this wave (BC26), Edit in Excel feature covers more pages and fields.
To let users enter serial, lot, and package data directly on journal lines, you must enable it on item journal batches. To set that up, follow these steps:
- Open the Item Journal Templates page.
- Select a template of the type Item, Consumption or Output.
- Choose the Batches action to open a list of item journal batches.

- Choose New to create a new batch, and then turn on the Item Tracking on Lines toggle.

Then you can find these fields on the page, for example,
Output Journals:

Consumption Journals:

Item Journals:

PS: In BC 25.5 and previous versions
Type must be equal to ‘Item’ in Item Journal Template: Name=CONSUMP. Current value is ‘Consumption’.

Then you can edit item tracking details in Edit in Excel feature.

Small update, but it makes life easier. Give it a try!!!😁
