Hi, Readers.
Today I would like to briefly share an interesting topic, what is the “first week” of a year in Business Central?
As you might know, you can enter dates in multiple ways in Business Central.

One of the ways is that you can enter a date as a weekday followed by a week number and, optionally, a year. For example, Mon25 or mon25 means Monday in week 25. If you don’t enter a year, the year of the work date is used.
Mon25 = 6/16/2025

Wed24 2024 = 6/12/2024

Here is a question, if we input Mon1, and this year is 2025, the date is 12/30/2024, why?

This is related to the question of which week is the first week of the year. Let’s take a look at the calendar for week one.
For the year 2025, the week from December 30 to January 5 is the first week.

Let’s look at another example, the year 2022.
Mon1 2022 = 1/3/2022

So for the year 2022, January 3rd to January 9th is the first week.

Is this random? Of course not, this is mentioned in Microsoft Learn (Docs).
Day-week-year pattern: The week number scheme is always ISO 8601, where week 1 is the week with 4 January in it, or the week with the first Thursday of the year.

This is also mentioned in the wiki:
First week:
The ISO 8601 definition for week 01 is the week with the first Thursday of the Gregorian year (i.e., of January) in it. The following definitions based on properties of this week are mutually equivalent, since the ISO week starts with Monday:
- It is the first week with a majority (4 or more) of its days in January.
- Its first day is the Monday nearest to 1 January.
- It has 4 January in it. Hence the earliest possible first week extends from Monday 29 December (previous Gregorian year) to Sunday 4 January, the latest possible first week extends from Monday 4 January to Sunday 10 January.
- It has the year’s first working day in it, if Saturdays, Sundays and 1 January are not working days.
Well. Although it is a little knowledge, I hope you can answer it when asked by customers or end users.😁
END
Hope this will help.
Thanks for reading.
