Hi, Readers.
Today I would like to briefly share a question that I have been asked, can automatically display pages in wide layout view and list layout mode when opened.
First, let’s take a look at what a wide layout view is. In the upper right corner of any page, there is a Show wide layout view button, click to open the wide layout view.
Ctrl+F12: Switch between wide and narrow layout views.
Customer List:

Sales Orders:

Another one is page layout mode, this was introduced in detail when discussing Business Central 2024 wave 2 (BC25.1): New URL parameter to change page layout (layout=analysis/list/talltiles/tiles).

These two data are Local personalization, is stored in your browser and only affects your experience when using different browser tabs in that same browser.
PS: Where is personalization stored?
When you interact with the Business Central web client to optimize your workspace, some user interface (UI) adjustments are automatically saved and roam with you across devices and browsers. Others are local and only affect your current browser.

- Roaming personalization is stored in the Business Central service and affects your experience no matter which device or browser you sign in to. Personalizing in one browser or device immediately affects other browsers or devices that you use. Roaming personalization is typically infrequent, more permanent, or time-consuming to recreate. Roaming settings can only be reset by clearing personalization from the Business Central web client.
- Local personalization is stored in your browser and only affects your experience when using different browser tabs in that same browser. It doesn’t affect your Business Central experience on other devices, browsers, or browser profiles. UI adjustments that are saved locally are typically those adjustments that users frequently do and redo as they work in Business Central.
So this data is saved locally. In simple terms, as long as you change these two settings in the same browser, the changed mode will be displayed when you open the page again. For example, I have changed the Sales Order to wide layout view. Next time I open it, it will be opened in wide layout view, the same is true for page layout mode.
PS: It is not effective for the browser’s inprivate mode/secret mode. More details: Performance Tips for Business Users
Browsers that run in private or guest mode typically discard browser storage when the browser window is closed. This discards cached data and users won’t be able to take advantage of page caching the next time they sign into Business Central. Users relying on private or guest browsing to work across multiple identities and organizations are advised to use browser profiles instead.

So is there a way to default to wide layout view and list page layout mode? Unfortunately, there is no way to do this as of now. You need to open the page and change it anyway.
But there is a third-party solution, BC Maximizer (a browser add-on for Business Central). You can search for it in your browser’s web store.

This interesting add-on comes from Milan Milinčević. Some of the information below refers to its blog, you can visit its blog directly.
Currently it has the following two functions:
1. After installing BC Maximizer, pages open in a wide layout view by default.

2. The list page automatically opens in List page layout mode.
Very simple. Give it a try!!!😁

Hope this will help.
