Hi, Readers.
Today I would like to share another mini tip about Business Central, how to automatically fill the Amount field on balancing general journal lines.
In Business Central, you use general journals to post financial transactions directly to general ledger accounts and other accounts, such as bank, customer, vendor, and employee accounts.

If you set up default balancing accounts for the journal batches on the General Journals page.

The balancing account is filled in automatically when you fill in the Account No. field.

Otherwise, fill in both the Account No. and Bal. Account No. fields manually. A positive amount in the Amount field is debited to the main account and credited to the balancing account. A negative amount is credited to the main account and debited to the balancing account.

In addition to using Bal. Account, you can also enter multiple transaction lines. But at this time, the Amount field in the second line needs to be entered manually. (As far as I know, users in Asia prefer this method)

In Show Fewer Columns mode:

If you want the second line to automatically fill the balance amount of the first line, you can select the Suggest Balancing Amount checkbox on the line for your batch on the General Journal Batches page.
Suggest Balancing Amount
Specifies if the Amount field on journal lines for the same document number is automatically prefilled with the value that is required to balance the document.

In this case, the amount is automatically entered before the general line is inserted.
