Dynamics 365 Business Central: Set up default ship-to addresses

Dynamics 365 Business Central

Hi, Readers.
Today I would like to talk about how to set up default ship-to addresses in Business Central.
A shipping address is the location a customer prefers to have an order delivered. A shipping address may not be the same as the customer’s mailing address or billing address.

In Business Central, we can manage the master data for this in Customer Card -> Ship-to Addresses.

Then we can use it in Sales Documents, such as Sales Order. Choose Alternate Shipping Address in the Ship-to field.

Select a Ship-to address to ship to.

The Ship-to address information is automatically applied to the order.

Customers can have multiple addresses but they usually have a central warehouse that goods must be shipped to. Here is a quick question, can we set a default Ship-to address for the customer? When creating a new order, Ship-to field usually defaults to Default (Sell-to Address).

I was asked this question last week and the partner felt this had to be custom and even AppSource had a similar program. AppSource: Default Ship-To Address

Of course we can customize it, but it actually has standard features and is very simple. This is an enhancement in Business Central Spring (April) 2019 Release (BC14).
Set up default ship-to addresses:

Customers can have multiple addresses but they usually have a central warehouse that goods must be shipped to. You can now define a customer’s default ship-to address in the Ship-to Code field on the customer card, which will automatically be inserted on sales documents for the customer. You can still change the ship-to address on sales documents.

Let’s see more details.
On the Customer Card page, in the Shipping group, you can find the following field, Ship-to Code.

Ship-to Code
Specifies the code for another shipment address than the customer’s own address, which is entered by default.

You can define a customer’s default ship-to address in the Ship-to Code field, which will automatically be inserted on sales documents for the customer.

On the sales order:
